Mr. Russell began practicing law more than 30 years ago in Jackson, Mississippi. In the years since, he has developed the reputation of being one of Mississippi’s best-rounded lawyers for understanding and applying the law that best protects both his business and individual clients. He was previously a partner in several of Jackson’s large firms, such as Magruder Montgomery Brocato & Hosemann, PA, Phelps Dunbar LLP, and Watkins Ludlum Winter & Stennis, PA. With a masters in tax law, a certified public accountant, and the principal of the firm, Mr. Russell understands what it takes to achieve success. As principal in the firm, Mr. Russell oversees the work of the other attorneys to make sure every client gets the benefit of his singular expertise.
Mr. Russell received his B.B.A. degree from Delta State University in 1977, and he has been a licensed certified public accountant since 1979. He received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1981.
Upon graduating from the University of Mississippi School of Law, he attended the law school at New York University, chosen because of its unrivaled status in matters of tax law. Mr. Russell received his Master of Laws (in Taxation) from New York University in 1982.
Mr. Russell has been active in the following community organizations: chairman, treasurer, and board of directors of Mississippi National Multiple Sclerosis Society; president and board member of DSU Alumni Association; vice president and board member of Delta State University Foundation, Inc.; and Treasurer and board member of the Northside YMCA. He has also been active in and served in the Vestry and as Treasurer at St. James Episcopal Church in Jackson, MS.
Mr. Russell is the Great-Great Grandson of James Lusk Alcorn, the first elected Republican Governor for the State of Mississippi in 1869. Governor Alcorn was passionate about public education, and while Governor, caused Alcorn State University to be established, which was named for him, as well as Alcorn County. Mr. Russell carries on some of the same passions of Governor Alcorn.
Mr. Russell is married with one daughter, two sons, and six grandchildren. He was raised in a family of farmers in Clarksdale, MS, where the family has been farming some of the same family ground since the 1850s. In his spare time, he enjoys hunting, gardening, and family time.
